Vintage Michael Taylor Round Walnut Top Dining Table on a Cast Stone Base
Details
Michael Taylor's style, hailed as the new look in decorating in the 1950's and 1960's, is synonymous with the light, airy, casual California style. A pioneer in sophisticated monochromatic schemes, he is perhaps best known for rooms with white walls, stripped floors, curtainless windows, natural wood or oversized wicker furniture and plants in huge, rare Egyptian or Greek vases.
Influenced by Syrie Maugham, the legendary British decorator, and by Francis Elkins, a designer and sister of the noted Chicago architect David Adler, Mr. Taylor was the first decorator to bring white interiors back into vogue after their heyday in the 1920's and 30's.
In 1984 Michael Taylor was awarded the Designer of Distinction Award by the American Society of Interior Designers. Among his best-known clients were Nan Kempner, Mrs. Norton Simon of San Francisco, the producer Charles Evans, the actor Steve Martin and the producer David Geffen.
