Finn Juhl Pelican Chair
Details
Designed by Finn Juhl in the 1940s. The Pelican chair is a very sculptural lounge chair with the utmost comfort, with its soft and organic shape is upholstered in Moonlight shearling and supported by sturdy walnut oiled legs. The characteristic soft and organic shape is almost like a body holding a body. When you sit down, the chair practically gives you a friendly hug. In no other design of his is Finn Juhl’s fascination for surrealism more apparent than in the Pelican Chair.
Finn Juhl was one of the leading figures in the Danish Design movement. He approached his work in the manner of a sculptor, seeking the beauty of the volume and shape, life and expressiveness; it was clear that to him, furniture could not be limited to function, but should also express an artistic sensibility.
Very few were manufactured, and the chair was almost forgotten until it was rediscovered and relaunched in 2001. Today the unique Finn Juhl collection consists of 40 classic masterpieces.
